Locals share their feelings on gunman’s viral video

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – Only hours after 24-year-old WDBJ reporter Alison Parker and her cameraman, 27-year-old Adam Ward, were gunned down Wednesday morning a video of the incident went viral on social media.

The shooter, former WDBJ employee Vester Lee Flanagan II, filmed the gruesome incident with a camera phone, which he later shared with the world through his Twitter account. "It’s scary," said local resident, Chris Jessen, "To think that they would film it, and then post it and it would get shared. It’s a little disorienting."

The video has already been shared over a million times via Twitter, Facebook and numerous other websites, which locals, like Jessen, said only make the incident more horrific.

"I think that’s part of the problem," said Jessen, "When these kinds of things happen they get attention, and it seems like that’s what people are going for."

Virginia State Police announced the shooter died this afternoon after shooting himself on Interstate 6. The video he posted still continues to be shared online.
