Long, strange trip for Jackson County theft suspect
MONTGOMERY, Alabama (WDEF) – Ryan Edward Wilson is headed back to Alabama after an unscheduled vacation in Tennessee.
Wilson was sentenced to two years for first degree theft in Jackson County.
He was sent to the Loxley prison on the Gulf Coast to serve his time.
But Wilson and another inmate got away from a work release program in late April.
The other inmate was recaptured a week later.
But Wilson made his way to upper East Tennessee in the five weeks since his escape.
Finally, acting on a tip, U.S. Marshals picked him up in Newport.
Now he is headed back to Alabama to face a new escape charge.
