Lookouts Max Kepler With Walk-Off Winner in Playoff Opener Against the Biscuits

Southern League MVP Max Kepler stepped up to the plate with the game on the line and delivered a two out, two-run single to clinch the 4-3 Game One win over the Montgomery Biscuits.

Before Kepler’s heroics, the Lookouts found themselves trailing most of the night. The Biscuits struck against starting pitcher DJ Baxendale early, putting two runs on the board in the second.

Chattanooga answered the opening barrage quickly with a run in the bottom of the inning on a Heiker Meneses single. Up 2-1, Montgomery extended their lead in the sixth on a monster home run by Patrick Leonard. Despite giving up that home run, Baxendale turned in a solid performance on the mound.  The rightly ended the night allowing three runs in 7.2 innings of work.

In the seventh the Lookouts inched closer when Stuart Turner scored on a fielding error. The ninth inning began on an ominous note for the home team when Matt Lollis struck out the first two batters he faced.  The reliever then walked the next two batters to put two men on for Kepler who smacked the game winning hit.

Tomorrow game two takes place at 7:15 p.m. on Fireworks Friday at AT&T Field. LHP Jason Wheeler (4-3, 3.92) will go for the Lookouts against RHP Jacob Faria (7-3, 2.51).
