Man arrested on charges of arson, disorderly conduct

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – An Alabama man faces arson and other charges for allegedly torching his hotel bathroom.

According to a court document obtained by News 12 Now, Police responded to the Days Inn on Shallowford Village Drive Friday night after a complaint came in about a strong smell and smoke coming out of one of the rooms.

Benjamin Jackson was in the bathroom lying on the floor with a butane tank next to him and a large part of the vinyl wall was lying on the ground burned.

The document says there were also burned items in the sink.

The man told police he was high on meth, and there was a possible meth lab.

One of the officers had to go to the E-R because of the chemicals in the air and the entire hotel was evacuated.

Jackson was charged with arson, vandalism over $1000, and disorderly conduct.
