Man charged with cyberstalking on Facebook

MURPHY, North Carolina (WDEF) – The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department has arrested a North Carolina man on a cyberstalking charge.

The Sheriff says they got a complaint in June that 54 year old Mark Newlyn Patterson was sending unsolicited, indecent videos through the Facebook app.

The investigator seized cell phones and got records from Facebook to make their case.

A Judge set a thousand dollar bond, but ordered that he have no contact with the victim.

Sheriff Derrick Palmer said “These are very time consuming cases involving several court orders and additional technical expertise. We do not feel this is a single incident and ask if there are any additional victims to please contact Detective Williams so that he can follow up. This case is a prime example of the dangers that are out on the internet.”
