Man pleads guilty in Swat Team Standoff

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) – A Sale Creek man involved in a standoff with Hamilton County deputies pleaded guilty to aggravated assault on Wednesday.

Kevin Lamar New had been charged with six counts of attempted first degree murder after he fired several rounds at police when they went to do a well being check on him last September.

Authorities say the 46-year old had barricaded himself in a house in Sale Creek.

The incident prompted a response from the SWAT team.

Investigators say New reportedly fired on officers at least two more times before being taken into custody.

Members of the SWAT team did return fire.

No one was injured despite all the shots fired.

He will be sentenced on Oct. 30.
