Marshall sweeps Mocs softball, 8-1
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (UTC Athletics) — The Chattanooga Mocs softball team saw its current losing skid grow after registering just four hits on offense, falling 8-1 to Marshall in the Sunday series finale inside Jim Frost Stadium.
After the defeat, Chattanooga falls to 4-14 overall, while Marshall improves to 9-3 after the victory. UTC has now lost its last 10 games, the longest streak in a single season since the program formed in 1994.

MARSHALL 8, UTC 1 | BOX
Marshall struck early against starting pitcher Brooke Sudduth, blasting back-to-back homers to lead off the game and forcing UTC to call to the bullpen. Kat Thompson entered in relief and escaped the inning without any additional damage.
After an Emily Coltharp walk and stolen base landed her on second with two outs, Hayleigh Weissenbach continued to stay hot at the plate and dropped an RBI single in to short right field, scoring Coltharp and bringing UTC within a run at 2-1.
Marshall’s Kat Sackett ripped a two-run RBI single up the middle in the top of the third to extend the visitors’ lead to 4-1. The Thundering Herd would continue its offensive attack in the top of the fifth, scoring two runs on a pair of back-to-back RBI doubles to lead 6-1.
Sackett would continue her blistering day at the plate in the top of the seventh with a two-run homer to right center, notching her third hit and fifth RBI of the game in four at-bats. Marshall would close out UTC in the final frame to earn an 8-1 decision.
Sudduth (0-2) suffered the loss in the circle after allowing two runs on two homers in the first inning. Thompson provided 4.2 inning of relief and surrendered six hits and four runs (all earned) while striking out three. Brooke Parrott added 2.1 innings and allowed just one hit and two runs (both earned) while striking out a pair.
Chattanooga finished with just four hits in the contest and were led by Kendall Andrews who finished with the lone multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles. Courtney Ball (1-for-2) and Weissenbach (1-for-3) rounded out the offense.

Chattanooga (4-14, 0-0 SoCon) returns to action on Wednesday, March 24 at Tennessee Tech for a final non-conference single game before kicking off Southern Conference play on the weekend. First pitch is slated for 6:00 p.m. ET.
