Massive Flooding in Chickamauga, Georgia

WALKER COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF)- Greg Robinson recalls his neighbors’ yard being submerged in water about 7 times in the last 15 years.

Each time his heating and cooling unit is left soaked.

“We have to shut it down which means we have no power as far as air and heat” says Robinson.

But his major concern, is for his next door neighbors.

“My neighbors are pretty much trapped up there” says Robinson. “They’re new neighbors and I think they were caught by surprise.”

With no way getting their car out of the driveway, Robinson’s neighbors are using drastic measures just to get by.

“In order to get around they have to go out and walk down the other road and come all away around and they had borrowed a car to get to the store, take the kids to school. ”

Now Robinson is looking for answers from the Walker County.

“I would like to see the county road department come out and make an effort to fix this.”

While Robinson is hopeful for a solution, he and his neighbors must now sit and wait for the massive pool to drain itself.

“If we don’t get another drop of rain, it’ll take probably between five to eight days just to get across the driveway. Where they can get in and out.”

Walker County’s spokesperson Joe Legge says the property is known to overflow and it simply can’t handle the overflow of record rain fall this year.

The property also sits in a bowl and collects water flowing downhill.

The homeowners can have driveway tiles installed but it will not guarantee to help with drainage.
