Mayor Berke announces plans to clean up old Dixie Yarns in Lupton City

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke says he has plans to clean up a dangerous area in North Chattanooga.

He made the announcement this morning.

Mayor Berke says he wants to clean up the site of the former R.L. Stowe Mills, also known as Dixie Yarns, in Lupton City.

He says it’s improve the quality of life for residents who live nearby.

Lupton City was founded to support the mill in the 1920s.

The company finally sold it off a few years ago and new owners began tearing it down.

But the demolition stopped before it was complete.
