Mayor’s office shows appreciation to teachers with Blackboard Bonuses

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)– Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke and his office are showing teachers they appreciate them.

They launched a new program called Blackboard Bonuses that is running this week during spring break.

Sixty businesses are giving discounts and other incentives to teachers who show their Hamilton County Department of Education ID card.

Organizers say this is a great way to thank teachers.

“On top of the fact they have been working hard all year we want to show people that Chattanooga is a great place to teach and a great place to live if you are a teacher and so the combination of the two is kind of the idea for why we are doing this,” said Tyler Yount, director of special projects for the Mayor’s Office.

Teachers are posting about their experiences on social media with the hash tag turn up for teachers.

The program will go until Sunday.
