McCallie Coach Admires Poise and Toughness of Blue Tornado QB Deangelo Hardy
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) McCallie opens playoff action tonight as they travel to Memphis to face Briarcrest Christian.
The Blue Tornado should give the Saints a steady dose of D-Lo.
That’s sophomore quarterback Deangelo Hardy, who has been impressive in his first season leading the Blue Tornado offense.
Deangelo Hardy may be a quarterback, but he plays with a linebacker mentality.
Said head coach Ralph Potter:”He’s very tough, and he’s really tough. He’s a hard-nose kid, and that’s what I like about him.”
Sometimes Hardy just laughs off big hits.
Said Hardy:”I think my favorite moment was the Ensworth game. I thought that was a funny memory. Like I pitched it to the back for a touchdown, but I got killed. It was just funny to me.”
In his first season under center, Hardy has become a true dual-threat quarterback.
Said Potter:”D-Lo gained over a thousand yards rushing and passing. That’s really good for us and for him.”
Said Hardy:”I really don’t know. I don’t know my stats.”
Reporter:”I thought quarterbacks always knew about stats?”
Chuckles Hardy:”I really don’t even know where to look honestly.”
Winning is the name of the game, and Coach Potter knows he has a winner calling the shots for the Blue Tornado.
Said Potter:”He doesn’t get rattled easily. He doesn’t let me rattle him, which is important.”
Reporter:”Do you try to rattle him?”
Said Potter:”No I don’t try. It’s just who I am. (chuckles) Just part of the chaos. Whoever plays quarterback for me, they have to understand that and know what they are getting. I tell them, you have to know when not to listen to me.”
Said Hardy:”I mean he gets into me at every practice. Probably going to get into me today. I just say yes sir and try to execute it to the best of my ability and move on. Feels like I’ve been a starting quarterback for awhile now. I’m confident with my team. It’s like I’m just comfortable.”
