Mental Health Month Event with Johnson Mental Health Center

20220528 141254May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and the Johnson Mental Health Center held an author reading event to promote mental health Saturday afternoon.

Local Chattanooga Author Dana Shavin wrote the book ‘The Body Tourist’. She discussed her trails with eating disorders and mental health. She also touched on why it’s important to talk frequently and openly about mental health, especially after the recent shooting in Texas.

“A lot of times, you’re right, it does it takes a tragedy for it to enter into the mainstream and make people go, ‘Oh, we really need to pay attention to this.’ Because, there are a lot of mental illnesses that don’t errupt in shot gun fire, but there are some that do and we need to get a handle on all of it,”Shavin said.

The event was hosted by Barnes and Noble in the Hamilton Place Mall.
