Mocs Defensive Line Shines in Win Over Samford
Chattanooga-(WDEF) If the Mocs defensive line keeps playing like they did last Saturday, then UTC will definitely be in the hunt for another SoCon title. Chattanooga’s front line help shut down one of the league’s top offenses in Samford.
Facing an explosive offense like Samford, Mocs coach Russ Huesman needed a great outing from his defensive line.
Said Huesman-"I grabbed (defensive line coach) Marcus West before the game. I said Marcus, you’ve got to get the defensive line juiced up. We’re going to need them big. They’ve got to have a monster day."
And they played like monsters racking up six sacks, and they held Samford to 58-yards rushing.
Said Huesman-"To hold them under 100-yards rushing I think was really good."
Added defensive back Dee Virgin-"For the most part, just let the D-line go. Let them rush. Let them do what they do. They’re good at it."
Huesman says the M-O for his defensive line is having guys that can really move.
"Well we try to get kids that can run. That’s been our number one priority. Two edge guys that can fly."
Said Mocs offensive line Josh Cardiello-"I think all of them are pretty quick off the ball. Very athletic. I think that’s definitely a good thing. Better than you know sometimes you go against those big, sloppy guys that can’t really move. Makes it a lot easier."
Huesman almost thinks he has an edge guy in the middle with Isaiah Mack.
"This year With Isaiah Mack. He can run, and he’s explosive."
