Mocs Eboni Williams Named SoCon Freshman of the Year

(gomocs.com) CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — University of Tennessee at Chattanooga forward Eboni Williams was named the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year, the league office announced today. Lakelyn Bouldin was named All-Conference and Arianne Whitaker earned a spot on the All-Defensive Team.

Williams led Chattanooga in her freshman campaign in rebounding and was second on the team in scoring. She recorded four double-doubles this season and had career-highs in scoring (27) and rebounding (13) against Wofford.

She ranked 19th in the league with 8.8 points per game and 11th for rebounding with 5.1 boards per game. She led UTC in field goal percentage making 41.4 percent of her attempts and was ninth in the SoCon for defensive rebounding with 3.8 per game.

Williams is the Mocs’ first Freshman of the Year since Heather Dykes in the 1998-99 season.

Bouldin earned her second straight all-conference nod and was named to the SoCon Coaches’ and SoCon Sports Media Association’s second team. She led Chattanooga in scoring and 3-point shooting as well as free throws.

She entered Chattanooga’s 1,000-Point Club and currently ranks 25th with 1,063 points. She is fifth all-time at Chattanooga for 3-pointers made with 176 and is the Mocs’ all-time free throw shooter making 85 percent of her attempts.

Whitaker earned her first recognition from the league in her second year. She is third all-time at Chattanooga for blocked shots with 101 and leads the Southern Conference with 56 this season. She ranks 33rd in the nation for blocked shots per game averaging 2.2 per game.

She is second on the team in rebounding with 4.7 per game and ranks 16th in the SoCon standings. She led the Mocs in blocked shots 16 times in 26 games and was the top rebounder for UTC seven times.

Mercer’s Susie Gardner was named the Coach of the Year by both polls. The Bears’ Amanda Thompson was named the Player of the Year by the Coaches and KeKe Calloway earned the honor from the SoCon media. ETSU’s Erica Haynes-Overton was named the Defensive Player of the Year in the coaches poll and Thompson was named the Ann Lashley Inspiration Award winner.

Chattanooga enters the Southern Conference Tournament as the No. 3 seed and will take on sixth-seeded UNCG Thursday night. The game is slated to tip off at 5:45 p.m.
