Mocs Feeling Excitement With Big VMI Victory Coupled With Return of QB Alejandro Bennifield
Chattanooga-(WDEF) The Chattanooga Mocs did not look like an 0-3 team in beating VMI 63-7 over the weekend. UTC picked up plenty of confidence with that SoCon victory. And now, they’ll pick up their All SoCon quarterback for the rest of the season.
Said head coach Tom Arth:”The way we played felt awesome.”
It wasn’t just the victory that had Coach Arth feeling good, it was the way his team executed.
Said defensive back Lucas Webb:”If we would have went down there and won 10-7 we probably wouldn’t have been satisfied with the way that we played. It’s just going out there and executing. Now that we have won that way, that’s the standard.”
Executing at a high level makes football fun. The players even got Coach Arth celebrating.
Said Arth:”That’s what it is all about. It’s so exciting. I was so happy for those guys. I think it was Adrian King. Now that I remember. He gave me the signal (to jump). I said all right. We’ll give it a shot. Hopefully I don’t end up on my back. It was good. The punt block.”
Said receiver Alphonso Stewart who blocked the punt:”That was probably the most excited I’ve ever been on the football field. My whole life playing football, I’ve never blocked a punt. I’ve never had that feeling, so having that happen was big for me, and I know it was big for the team.”
No one will be more excited this week than quarterback Alenjandro Bennifield.
He’s back after a four game suspension due to an NCAA academic issue.
Said Bennifield:”Just an honor to be back out here with my guys. It has been about a month and-a-half or however long it has been since I have been able practice or play in a game. It’s pretty exciting to have the opportunity to get out there and be available to help.”
Reporter:”Would it be safe to say that Alejandro will get on the field at some point during Saturday’s game?”
Said Arth:”I don’t. I don’t know. I don’t know the answer to that. You know Nick (Tiano) has put us, a credit to him, he has put us in a tough situation. You would think it would be really easy to say hey, we’re going back to ‘Dro, an all conference player. Nick has done soem really good things. Certainly played his best game last week.”
Tiano threw for 249-yards against VMI with four TD passes. Chattanooga hosts Western Carolina Saturday at 6pm at Finley Stadium.
