Mocs Football Team Adds Transfer From MTSU Basketball Team

(GoMocs.com) University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football coach Russ Huesman announced the addition of Joshua Phillips to the 2016 roster today. Phillips is a transfer from Middle Tennessee where he was a three-year letter winner on the Blue Raiders’ basketball team.

At 6-8 and 230 pounds, Phillips is slated to be a defensive end for the Mocs. He is a Hendersonville, Tenn. native and prepped at Pope John Paul II High School in Nashville. He was an all-state basketball player, but also played football until his senior year.

“We are excited to add Joshua to the team for the upcoming season,” stated head coach Russ Huesman. “He is a good athlete who can help us add depth at a position of need.”

At MTSU, Phillips saw action in 27 games for the Conference USA champion Blue Raiders in 2015-16. He averaged 1.1 ppg and 1.6 rpg in 5.3 minutes of action as a junior. He played three seasons on the hardwood and has two years of football eligibility remaining.
