Mocs Get an Early Start With Fall Football Camp

Chattanooga-(WDEF) It may not feel like fall, but football has arrived.
The Mocs opened fall camp this afternoon at Scrappy Moore Field.
UTC is starting a little earlier this year, since their season opener against Jacksonville State was bumped up to August 26th for national television.
Chattanooga is one of the first teams in the country to start fall camp, and the players and coaches love getting the jump start on everybody else.
Said defensive back Lucas Webb:”Regardless of how long it is, it’s always just satisfying knowing that you are putting in work, while others aren’t. It’s an edge. It’s extra motivation to go out there and do it.”
Said head coach Arth:”I’m just excited to get going. It would have been tough to sit around waiting another week. Our coaches have been prepared. Really we had fall camp planned out back in May.”
New head coach like Tom Arth loves walking into a team that returns a dangerous quarterback like Alejandro Bennifield, who threw 26 touchdown passes last year, one off the school record.
Said Arth:”That makes you sleep a little bit better at night there’s no doubt about it. I’ve been so impressed with ‘Dro throughout the time I’ve gotten to know him.”
Said Bennifield:”Team goes as I go. I have to lead the team. If I’m playing bad, if I’m not being a great leader, our team won’t play well. I feel like I’ve been leading exceptionally this summer, and I feel like it will come in the season.”
The Mocs first game with Jax State on August 26th will likely be a top 20 showdown to start the year.
Said Arth:”It’s going to make fall camp that much more competitive because our players understand what they are preparing for, and the challenge we face right off the bat.”
Said Bennifield:”Yeah I think the anticipation for the season, it creates an environment that you want to play in that big-time game.”
Coach Arth says it’s a matter of polishing up the game plan from here on out.
Said Arth:”We’ve had all the time through spring and through the summer to really install our philosophies and our beliefs and our schemes. I think that we are going to see our execution really improve.”
