Mocs Looking to Regroup Ahead of Tough Road Game With Wofford
Chattanooga-(WDEF) Normally Mocs coach Will Wade gives his team Monday off.
But after what Wade felt was a sub-par performance in UTC’s last two games.
Wade had the guys practicing at 6am on Monday.
"Thought our toughness wasn’t very good. Don’t think we got a loose ball all weekend. Something we’ve got to do a better job of. I think our rebounding has been spotty."
One way to toughen up the team, add a 6’6 225 pound forward like Duke Etheridge to the starting lineup.
Said Wade,"He started at Tennessee Tech. Started early in the year, and he probably wasn’t quite ready or mature enough to handle it earlier in the year. If I’m going to talk about our defense and rebounding, then I can’t talk about it and not start somebody who’s maybe our best rebounder per minute."
Chattanooga’s last three road games have all been decided by three points, with two of them going to overtime.
Said Wade,"We haven’t gotten off to good starts. We haven’t been ready to play. Part of it and not to make any excuses for our guys, it’s a little bit of an adjustment. People are a little more excited to play us. We go to Mercer and they have the black-out. We go to Western Carolina, and they had over 3,000 people there. I think it was their largest crowd of the season."
Wade says UTC can not afford a slow start against Wofford on Thursday, the top team in the SoCon.
"If we don’t do a better job on Thursday, the game will be over early. You can cut the cameras off ten minutes into the game because we’re not coming back if we get down that much on Thursday."
A big game from Casey Jones would help against the Terriers.
He was just named the SoCon player of the month for January.
Said Wade,"He had a great month. Started it off with the game winner against East Tennessee State, and then it compounded from there."
