Mocs Not Overlooking 1-6 Western Carolina
Chattanooga-(WDEF) The Chattanooga Mocs have won seven straight against Western Carolina, and they’re favored to make it eight since the Catamounts are winless in the Southern Conference.
But UTC has a ton of respect for Western Carolina despite their struggles this season.
Western Carolina has only one win this season, and yet the word Mocs coach Russ Huesman uses to describe them is dangerous.
Said Huesman:”I know their record shows 1-6, but they’re extremely dangerous.”
So what makes these Catamounts dangerous?
Said running back Richardre Bagley:”I know for a fact. This will be my third time playing against them. Every time I’ve played against them, they’ve had great athletes on the defensive end and the offensive end as well.”
Said Huesman:”I think their quarterback is one of the most dynamic guys in the league. I think he was. What was he second in the Southern Conference in the high jump in the Southern Conference track meet.”
Said defensive back Trevor Wright:”A guy like that in the pocket. He’s going to scramble out and create longer plays. That makes you aware that you have to stay on your receiver a little bit longer and don’t fall asleep and just make sure you stay in coverage.”
Best if the Mocs look at the Catamounts film and not their record.
Said Huesman:”Why they’re 1-6. That’s something they would have to answer over there.”
Said Wright:”Watching them on the film it’s kind of shocking what their record is. You just go into it. Know that you have to play at your best because all it takes is a couple of drives for them to get going, and they are in it with us.”
Playing in Cullowhee, North Carolina can also be an adventure.
Said Wright:”I can’t remember if we went mid-October or late October, but it was snowing outside our hotel when we went. It was just in the middle of nowhere in the mountains. It’s a weird place to be.”
Kickoff Saturday is set for 3:30pm.
