Mohawk to buy IVC Group

(WDEF)      Calhoun-based Mohawk Industries is already the world’s largest floorcovering company.
It just announced plans to get even bigger.
Mohawk announced plans to buy vinyl and laminate producer IVC Group and its Dalton manufacturing plant.
The offer was more than $1.2 billion.
The IVC Group is one of the world’s largest producers of sheet vinyl, luxury vinyl tile and laminate.
Brian Anderson of the Greater Dalton Chamber of Commerce said, "There will continue to be a progressive of companies becoming bigger and becoming able to offer all flooring choices.  IVC has been a leader in that particular type of flooring.  So Mohawk’s going to get a good complement."
The Belgian-based IVC has sales of about $700 million, with facilities in Europe and the United States.
The 520,000 square-foot vinyl plant in Dalton employs more than 150 workers.
