MoonPie Mini Challenge
Race 13.1 TN Valley adding .131 race to win free MoonPies for a year
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — At 13.1 miles, running a half marathon takes weeks, if not months, of training and preparation. Competing in the MoonPie Mini Challenge only takes .131 miles and a love of America’s original marshmallow sandwich.
MoonPie has teamed with Race 13.1 TN Valley to offer the inaugural challenge at 10:30 a.m. EST on May 2 in Cleveland, Tenn. Participants will run .131 miles, devour three MoonPies as quickly as they can, then run .131 miles back for a chance to claim free MoonPies for a year.
“Runners across the country love getting a MoonPie at the end of a race, because it’s a delicious way for them to refuel,” said Tory Johnston, vice president of marketing for Chattanooga Bakery, makers of MoonPie since 1917. “Why not make it the focus of the race? Then anyone can be part of the fun!”
Participation in the MoonPie Mini Challenge is $20 per person and open to all ages. All runners will receive a commemorative t-shirt, and two participants will each receive MoonPies for a year — 52 boxes of their favorite size and flavor. One prize will go to the fastest finisher, and one prize will be awarded to a randomly selected challenger.
Race 13.1 TN Valley is also making its debut this year. The half marathon begins at 7 a.m. at Cleveland’s Bradley Square Mall, followed by 5k and 10k runs starting at 7:15 a.m.
Half marathon, 5k and 10k runners can participate in the MoonPie Mini Challenge for a discounted entry fee of $10.
