More To The Story: Axe Throwing

Dave Staley learns about the craft axe throwing

EAST RIDGE, Tennessee (WDEF) – Say, if you don’t mind me asking, have you ever thrown an axe? If not, you could be like Joseph. Joseph might well hit a knot on a tree from 150 yards out.

More to the point, he can nail the bullseye with that big knife. And that’s what “Craft Axe Throwing” in East Ridge is all about. Axes, bullseyes and relieving tension!!!

“Oh yeah! Once you get the hang of it, you’ll start flinging through those boards. And you’ll release some stress.”

It’s the one year anniversary of this facility. COVID-19 pushed back the ribbon cutting ceremony until this week. In fact, the East Ridge Chamber of Commerce named February 21st as “Craft Axe Throwing Day!”

There are ten throwing lanes in this place. And yes, the employees make the target boards in the back. Every week or so.
20 bucks for an hour of tossing a very sharp instrument. Who can throw?

“Anyone can throw axes. 10 years and older. We have trained instructors to show you how to do it safely. They’ll show you how to hit the bullseye every time.”

“It is not hard. Everybody should try. And if you have difficulties, we’ll come in and make sure you’re having a good time!”

By the way, all this week, “Craft Axe Throwing” is partnering with the Chattanooga Food Bank. Stop in and drop off some canned food. And get in the groove. Groove is the key word!

“There’s some style and finesse to it. But when it comes down to it, everybody has their own groove and style. Instructors will help you. But you’ll kind of have to find your own groove.”
