More To The Story: Chattanooga Historical Society

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – The Chattanooga Historical Society is a relatively new nonprofit. Starting a little over a year ago. It has yet to OFFICIALLY open. There’s still work to be done. Especially securing storage space. But it’s only a matter of time.
Chattanooga hasn’t had an historical society for decades. But when it’s set to go, you’ll be able to really step back into time.

LINDSAY STUBER, CURATOR OF COLLECTIONS;
“Our end goal is that anybody can come in and anybody can see the history. Actually, in some cases, touch the history. You can find photographs. You can learn about the types of photographs.”

Lindsay Stuber and her staff certainly have a lot to work with.

DAVE STALEY, NEWS 12 NOW;
“Tons of artifacts. Tons of pictures. Pictures of people. Pictures of bridges being built. Pictures of dams being built. You name it, it’s there.”

Having a physical location is actually the next step from the on-line site Picnooga. IT’S been up and running for over seven years. Picnooga is a digital archive of the Scenic City area.

With the new location on 7th street, your walk through history is even deeper!

LINDSAY STUBER, CURATOR OF COLLECTIONS;
“We really want someplace where people can come and learn about the collective history. Every aspect of Chattanooga’s history. Come share history and then put it on line as well, where everybody in the world can see it.”

The historical society will also put on a “true crime walking tour of Chattanooga.” Beginning in mid-October. That will TRULY be a jaunt through years past.
