Morning Round-up: Impeaching Alabama’s Governor & Georgia Preps an Execution

Alabama lawmakers vote to set up an impeachment process against the Governor, but it could halt the current effort to oust Robert Bentley. The House of Representatives voted to have the Judiciary Committee investigate impeachment grounds — if 21 legislators sign impeachment articles against a state official. So far, only eleven lawmakers have filed articles against Bentley

Georgia prepares to execute a man convicted in the 1998 killings of a central Georgia trucking company owner and his two children. Daniel Anthony Lucas is scheduled to die by lethal injection tonight. Lucas would be the fifth inmate executed in Georgia this year.

We’ll get an update later today on the Highway 27 construction project in downtown Chattanooga. An engineer working on that effort will detail timelines and some safety challenges crews face while working on the side of the road.
