Morning Round-up: Want to Buy a Nuclear Power Plant?
The TVA will sell a never-completed nuclear plant that has cost more than four-billion dollars over the past four decades. TVA’s board voted to declare the Bellefonte nuclear plant near Hollywood, Alabama, surplus. The site includes two partially finished nuclear reactors, railroad spurs and a helicopter pad. It has been appraised at $36 million.
The Amber Alert for a 9-year-old girl from Rogersville, Tennessee continues this morning. The TBI says Carlie Marie Trent’s uncle picked her up at school Wednesday and she hasn’t been seen since. Authorities say Gary Simpson signed Carlie out of school under false pretenses. Simpson was last seen driving a white 2002 Dodge van with a Tennessee registration of 173GPS. Police say it has a dark stripe and gold running boards.
The annual Armed Forces Day parade returns to downtown Chattanooga this morning. This will be the 67th year for the event, which gets underway at 10:30am. Parade entries will include military services, area veterans groups, high school bands and JROTC units, patriotic organizations and others.
