More on this morning’s fatal crash on I-75 near the split

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Chattanooga Police Department have released more information on the fatal accident on I-75 south at the I-24 split that occurred around 6:40 a.m. Saturday morning.

According to the Chattanooga Police Department, a 2015 Ford Explorer driven by Curtis Byrd Jr was traveling south on I-75 and his uncle, Wilbert Byrd, was in the passenger seat. They were traveling from Detroit, Michigan to Savannah, Georgia.

Chattanooga Police said that Curtis Byrd failed to maintain his lane and drifted off the left side of the road, striking the guardrail which caused fatal injuries to Wilbert Byrd. Curtis Byrd also suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

At this time, Chattanooga Police say there are no charges in the case but the investigation is ongoing.
