Man seriously injured in Motorcycle Wreck

Chattanooga, Tenn. (WDEF) – A wreck in Chattanooga seriously injured a motorcyclist this morning.

The crash between the motorcycle and car happened at the corner of East 31st Street and 12th Avenue.

Traffic Investigators spent the morning trying to figure out exactly what happened.

But Joe Warren of the Chattanooga Police Department says it didn’t take long to see that speed played a major role.

“The preliminary evidence looks like the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed on 12th Avenue. He was, apparently using both lanes and the car was trying to get out of his way and turn left and get out of his way. Unfortunately they did collide, and the motorcyclist sustained serious injuries.”

The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, which may have saved his life.

Investigators don’t believe the injuries are life threatening.

For residents in this neighborhood, the news of the crash is nothing new.

Renee Peresc sees wrecks all the time.

“They just speed through here. They don’t even do the speed limit that’s supposed to be on the side streets. They speed, and it’s hard for the people on, where the stop signs are, to see the cars coming the other ways. A couple of weeks ago we had one that hit the back end of another car here on the same corner. We’re just scared to let our kids out in the front to play.”

Peresc is worried about a car coming through her house.

She wishes people would slow down.
