UPDATE: Multi vehicle crash on I 75 near I 24 merge
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Several people are lucky to be alive tonight, after an RV, a Jeep, and a smaller car all lost control on the Interstate and landed on the side of the road…
leaving serious damage and causing plenty of traffic.
“Everybody in this crash is very fortunate that nobody’s hurt more than they are,” said Sgt. Justin Kilgore
This is the aftermath when an RV, towing a Jeep, suddenly came into contact with another car Wednesday afternoon.
“Once they collided, they both spun out of control and up off the embankment here right beside the golf course on 75.”
Sergeant Justin Kilgore, with the Chattanooga Police Department, says officials are currently investigating what caused the crash, which left all three vehicles in pretty bad shape.
“It’s taken a Class A wrecker just to pick the thing up and get it outta here. Uh, the Jeep was actually sitting on top of the blue car. Fortunately everybody seems to be okay, uh we don’t–we’re not aware of any life threatening injuries at the moment.”
I-75 South was shut down for hours, and 24 headed southbound was backed up for miles, due to the clean up… which is why officials continue to urge drivers to be careful, especially during wet and rainy conditions.
“Pay attention to everything that’s going on around you, because just a minor mistake can cause something like this, and when a minor mistake causes something like this of course that backs up traffic. And all the time we’re having to work other accidents, because of an accident up the road, and you know how bad traffic is at five o’clock around here in Chattanooga. It’s causing traffic jams, up–probably all the way towards Jasper, and that’s causing more accidents potentially.”
The investigation is still very early, but officials say they have no reason to believe any foul play was involved with this crash.
Chattanooga Police tell us 3 vehicles involved in the crash.
People were transported, but none of the injuries are serious.
