New Chattanooga Fire Station Opens

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) As of Monday, a new fire station in East Lake is open and ready to respond to emergencies.

It’s located on 8th Avenue and houses state of the art equipment.

Officials say the previous station was too small, old and costly to maintain, but the historic brass fire pole from the old station made the move.

It dates back to 1971.

A fire truck drove through the fire scene tape to dedicate the new station, and new mobile data technology on those trucks will help with response times.

Fire Chief Lamar Flint says, "It’s a computer system that tells the firefighters where they’re located. It also shows them a detailed map of the area. Actually, it shows a detailed map of the entire city."

The station will be home to 15 firefighters.
