New Chattanooga greenway set to connect more residents

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee. (WDEF) – The Scenic City is getting a new greenway that will connect residents in the Alton Park Community to Chattanooga.

The new greenway is an expansion of the Riverwalk.

This part of the Riverwalk will start at Saint Elmo Avenue and continue into Alton Park Boulevard, following the decommissioned railway tracks, and ending at the Southside Community Park.

News 12 spoke with City Councilman Erskine Oglesby’s who presides over the Alton Park community about the importance of this new addition.

“It’s going to have to focus on bringing economic development. And by that saying in that it needs to create opportunities for retail and commercial development while creating revitalization to the neighborhood that’s going to help jobs and educational opportunities.”

Oglesby says the city is still in the beginning stages of this project and right now there is no set completion date.
