New details about East Ridge woman accused of rape
EAST RIDGE, Tennessee(WDEF) – An East Ridge woman accused of rape has been indicted by a Hamilton County grand jury.
According to documents obtained by News 12, April Hicks, 32, of East Ridge was indicted on count of rape of child less than 14 years old.
The alleged assault happened more than two years ago inside an apartment off of Ringgold Road.
News 12 spoke to one of Hick’s closest relatives who was aware of the allegations. She agreed to talk to on the record as long as her identity was publicized.
“I couldn’t believe it. I was devastated. Until this day I still can’t believe she would do that,” said the relative.
According to East Ridge Police, Hicks didn’t act alone. Investigators have confirmed to News 12 that William Russell, 44, of East Ridge is also a co-defendant in the case.
According to the relative, Russell is Hick’s boyfriend.
“From what I understood, the boyfriend did everything and Ms. Hicks watched it and did nothing about it to my understanding,” she said.
The relative also knows the alleged young victim and the circumstances as to why the girl was at the apartment when the alleged assault occurred.
“She doesn’t talk about it. She doesn’t want to and I won’t make her. That’s her decision. She knows that if she wants to talk about it, I’m here for her.”
Hicks remains in jail on a $25,000 bond. Her next court date is May 10.
As for Russell, News 12 has not been able to confirm that he has been taken into custody.
