New information on deadly Whitfield chase

DALTON, Georgia (WDEF) – Whitfield County Sheriff’s officials are releasing more information on the deadly crash last week.

They says there were active felony warrants for Zachary Douglas Lumpkin.

Deputies spotted him Thursday night at the Truck Stop at Connector 3.

They hit the emergency lights and tried to pull him over.

They says Lumpkin fled south on Highway 41, driving recklessly.

When he headed the wrong way, deputies decided to use a pit maneuver.

But Lumpkin lost control and hit a telephone pole.

Both he and his passenger, Shadow Ridge Stanley, were killed.

Officials say that Lumpkin had run earlier in the week when officers tried to stop him.

He was wanted for Receiving Stolen Property, Driving with a Suspended License and Possession of a firearm by a Convicted Felon.
