New prairie dogs at the Chattanooga Zoo
Baxter, a male, is 1-year-old.
Piper, a female, is 3-years-old.
They just got out of quarantine and are now on exhibit in the Chattanooga Zoo with the two previous residents; females Sidewinder and Flower.
The prairie dog enclosure was revamped just last year.
It’s an open-air, 400-square-foot exhibit has multiple viewing windows from which guests are able observe these active animals from various perspectives.
Zoo officials say they were excited to get the chance to exchange the animals and enhance the social structure.
All the prairie dogs seem pleased with the new living arrangement, and officials say most likely appreciate having some extra paws to help as they continue to stay busy with the frequent burrowing!
