New Spin Class at Thrive Studio

 Cyclists may skip their workouts due to heat, rain and traffic dangers.
     But a new spin class in Chattanooga is drawing cyclists in droves with a recent addition.
     WDEF News 12’s Brittany Shaw takes the new bikes for a test drive.

<"There are two kinds of bikes at Thrive Studio and the ones we are most excited about are called Real Ryders, and they’re made to move side to side so it’s more like being on a real road bike.">

Gavin says so far Thrive Studio offers the only Real Ryder classes in the area.

She says they’re not your ordinary stationary bike.

<"They require a lot of strength, a lot of core power, so you get a really good total body workout on them.">

A workout the Real Ryder company says burns up to thirty percent more calories than an ordinary cycling class.

Gavin tells me one of the indoor cyclists put that claim to the test…

<"Put his heart rate monitor on went and did a regular stationary class, and then did a Real Ryder class, and he’s done that several times and he says that he actually does burn more calories when he does that.">

I took the new bikes for a spin.

With upbeat music, colorful lights, even a disco ball the atmosphere is fun, but don’t be fooled.

There’s a lot of work in this workout!

The class I took left even the avid cyclists drenched in sweat.

<"It’s pretty brutal. It’s definitely more a workout than I’d expected. Definitely will help me on the road.">

I talked to cyclist Scott Kimmerer right after his first experience on a Real Ryder.

<"I don’t know how to explain it, why it’s so much harder, because I don’t feel like I’m the slowest person out there when I’m riding, but in here I feel like I’m about to die.">

Real Ryder classes also include the use of hand weights… For a total body workout.

Just remember, to bring a towel.
