New Vols Coach Josh Heupel Discusses Installation of His New Offense This Spring

We’ll get our first look at Josh Heupel’s new up-tempo offense this weekend during Tennessee’s Orange and White spring game. The Vols new head coach discusses what the installation of his offense and concepts have been like this spring.

Said Heupel:”We pushed back the start of spring ball a little bit to make sure that they got some of our installs. Got a little bit of comfort with our terminology. Our verbiage and how you need to communicate. Guys want to learn how to play the way that we are going to play. They want to be efficient. It’s a prideful group of kids. We have a lot of really good football players here that are very prideful and in all reality not excited about what happened a year ago and believe that we can be a whole lot better. That’s what we are building to and working towards every single day.”
Reporter:”In regard to the speed or tempo of the offense. Are you where you want to be right now or close?”
Said Heupel:”Uh no, but we shouldn’t be at this point either. We’re going to continue to get more and more efficient in how we operate and how we function.”
Reporter:”What are some things you are hoping to accomplish in the spring game?”
Said Heupel:”This is our greatest dress rehearsal before we get to next fall. The first two scrimmages we treated like a game in everything that we are doing for our players to make sure they are prepared and understand how to get ready to go play a football game. Excited that we get an opportunity to have the state of Tennessee and Vol Nation here inside of this stadium. Going to be a great day, and I look forward to seeing everybody there.”
