New Vols Coordinator Tyson Helton Discusses His Plans For UT Offense
New Vols offensive coordinator Tyson Helton left a job with his brother to come to Rocky Top. Helton was on the staff at Southern Cal where his brother Clay is the head coach.
Tyson has an impressive offensive resume, and he was allowed to speak for the first time Thursday as a Vols assistant.
Reporter:”What is success for this offense in year one?”
Said Helton:”Win a lot of games. You know I think our main goal going into every game is to win the game. The one thing I like about our offense is we are very multiple. We can get under center. We can run the ball. We can spread you out. We can get in the gun. We can throw the ball. Our offensive line at the end of the day in this conference, they’re going to have to be able to dominate the line of scrimmage.”
Reporter:”How do you feel about the running backs you have. Do you prefer one guy or a couple of back-ups or a by committer approach.”
Said Helton:”I think you’ve got to be by committee in this league. If one guy is going to do it, by the end of the season, he’s going to be a dead man to be honest with you.”
Helton will lead the Vols offense in their first fall practice session on Friday.
