North Georgia Church Recognizes Law Enforcement Officers

TRENTON, Ga. (WDEF) — In the wake of recent officer-involved shootings across the country, one North Georgia church is showing appreciation for its local law enforcement.

On Sunday, Piney Grove Baptist Church in Trenton held a “Back The Blue” service for local sheriff’s deputies and police officers.

Church members just wanted to say thank you, and that they support the men and women behind the badge.

“Anyone that is willing to lay their life down on the line for us is worthy of recognition,” said John Smith, senior pastor of Piney Grove Baptist. “There are so many times I have been helped personally, and many others, where they have been there. They have protected us. There have been many times even in our own building here, where the doors were left unlocked. They would come in and they would check the building. There have been times where we have been in danger. They’re always there to protect us.”

“It’s very humbling,” said Dade County Sheriff Ray Cross. “It’s beyond words. We thank the community and the public for that.”

News 12 Chief Meteorologist Patrick Core was also at Sunday’s service.

Patrick presented a special award to Maj. Tommy Bradford, who has served Dade County for 21 years.
