North Georgia residents deal with storm impacts Friday

WALKER COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) – Storms showed their impacts in North Georgia Friday afternoon.

Heather Baker captured video of drivers trying to navigate through flash flooding on Cleveland Highway in Dalton.

Over in Walker County, what could be serious storm damage left residents shocked and confused.

“I ain’t never seen nothing like this before. I mean you know it’s just unreal,” Jeff Hinson said.

Hinson and his mom live at a house on Highway 157.

He said when he got home Friday afternoon he discovered that two trees had toppled over in his backyard.

“My momma started breaking down crying and everything. I mean it was just a, you know, didn’t know what to do,” Hinson said.

The incident ruined his back porch.

It also damaged the roof, caused a leak in his kitchen, and damaged a fence.

Hinson said he’s not sure what exactly made the trees fall over.

“The high winds might have, you know, got to it or something. I don’t really know, but that’s about an 80-year-old tree,” Hinson said.

He said no one was inside when it happened and is thankful that no one was hurt.

Hinson said he’s going to try to get an insurance company to come out and assess the damage on Saturday.
