Northpoint Boulevard Closure

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) Mayor Andy Berke, District 3 Councilman Ken Smith, and area business leaders were there this morning to announce that the city would soon pave that bumpy and dangerous roadway.

Ten thousand vehicles a day were using it.

The road was actually owned by the city, and numerous private entities, which have now donated the property to the city. That was worked out by city attorney Wade Hinton.

City Council Member Ken Smith said, “The damage , really, I’ve seen broken axles..sitting out here on this road. So, at some point..you know I joked earlier about, you know, ignore the holes and enjoy the journey…but when you’re having to drive into on-coming traffic, this is a public safety issue..and it is something that as a city, we really needed to step back and take a look.”

Smith says getting Northpoint Boulevard paved was one of his top priorities.

The 500-thousand dollar cost was included in last year’s city budget.
