Notre Dame Looking to Bounce Back With Winning Season
There hasn’t been much fight in the fighting Irish of Notre Dame the past few years. So this season, the green and gold is looking to be big and bold. Notre Dame enters the 30-in-30 spotlight.
Notre Dame has slugged through three straight losing seasons. Only one thing you can do to try and restore the glory.
Said receiver Jermaine Smith:”We’ve just been working. A lot of work. Like day in and day out. I don’t think we missed that many days like off days. Not many off days. We’ve been working. Working. Working.”
Said head coach Charles Fant:”Makes me so proud when I see guys months and months away from the game, and they’re working so hard. There’s nobody around. There’s nobody cheering them on. It’s just them and the work. And now they get a chance to see how hard that work is going to pay off for us. So I’m just so excited for our kids opportunity.”
It’s been an opportunity for reflection for coach Fant.
Said Fant:”When you are at a program for so many years as I have this year eleven. Some things you kind of get used to. So we got shooken up these last couple of years because of graduation and some other things. So we’re just really excited for the lessens that we learned last year to make us better for this year.”
Doesn’t sound like Fant will have to teach too many lessons this year either.
Said Fant:”The greatest thing about this team is there are no knuckleheads on this team. These kids come and do the work, and that’s exciting.”
Reporter:”How do you put people in line to make sure there are no knuckleheads?”
Said Smith:”I just asked them do you really want to play? And depending on how they answer, I know how to handle the situation.”
And Fant will turn to some young guns to get a handle on the offense.
Said Fant:”We’ve got two sophomores and a freshman. We are young at quarterback, but Cash Bainey our sophomore has played. He played last year, so at least we have experience. Last year we had no experience whatsoever at the quarterback position, so it’s good to have a year under our belt there.”
