NTSB preliminary report on Chatsworth plane crash

CHATSWORTH, Georgia (WDEF) An NTSB preliminary report says that a small plane that crashed in northwest Georgia killing four people actually broke up in the air.

The twin engine plane was returning to McMinn County after a family vacation on July 1st.

Near Chatsworth, Georgia, witnesses say they saw the plane disappear into a thunderstorm.

They heard a boom, and then saw pieces of the plane, on fire, falling to the ground.

The report says the pilot was not receiving radar services or talking to air traffic controllers about the weather.

The victims were grandparents from Etowah and their grandchildren from Mississippi.

The two children were both ten.
