Number One Ranked Bryan College Fishing Team Set to Compete For a National Title

Soddy Daisy, TN-(WDEF) When Bryan College started up their collegiate fishing team, they were hoping it would bring the school some notoriety.
Well consider the mission a success.
Bryan College is currently ranked number one in the country, and they’re hoping to add a national championship in August.
In just the third year of the fishing team’s existence at Bryan College, and they won the Cabela’s school of the year honor, which is considered the most sought after collegiate fishing title.
Said head coach Mike Keen:”Probably did not expect this much success this soon.”
Reporter:”How many times have you heard the question, where is Bryan College?”
Said team member Nathan Bell:”We’ve heard it a bunch. The best thing I could say to them is most everybody in the fishing industry knows where Lake Chickamauga is. I say it’s on the north shore of Lake Chickamauga.”
Said Keen:”When you tell people that you can drop a basketball on your campus, and it rolls into the hottest lake in the South, it’s really good. It makes recruiting a lot easier.”
And remember, Bryan College competes against big schools like Tennessee and Florida.
Said team member Cole Sands:”That’s one of the cool things about college fishing. You get to fish against these giant schools, and still have a chance to compete against them. You have just as good a chance of beating them as anybody else does.”
Bryan College has been off the fishing charts this season.
Said Keen:”They won three major tournaments last year, which in itself is unheard of. But then they finished in the top ten in every other tournament except two and one of them was thirteenth.”
The fishing team has qualified to compete for a national title next month.
Said Bell:”We’re going to fish for the Bassmaster National Championship, which out of the three college divisions, is probably the most prestigious. We’re going to Lake Bemidji in Bemidji, Minnesota.”
Sands:”If we win a championship, that’s just a whole other level. It would be huge for our school.”
Said Keen:”Winning school of the year has brought us a lot of attention, but winning a national championship, that would be icing on the cake.”
