Orlando man charged after a chase in the North Carolina Mountains

MURPHY, North Carolina (WDEF) – A chase in the North Carolina mountains over the weekend ended with the arrest of a Florida man.

Cherokee County Sheriff Derrick Palmer says one of his deputies tried to help two people on a motorcycle make a turn on US 74.

But as he approached them, the motorcycle sped off.

The Deputy chase him for more than 40 minutes.

At one point, the passenger managed to slide off the bike and ran.

The deputy says the motorcycle hit speeds over 115 mph and traveled the wrong way several times.

It all ended when the driver turned down a dead end road and wiped out into a tree.

Officers found the motorcycle was stolen in Florida.

They charged Joshua Warren Boyle with Possession of a Stolen vehicle, evading arrest and various traffic violations.

Sheriff Derrick Palmer stated “This started out as a good Samaritan act by the Deputy and ended in the recovery of a stolen vehicle and several traffic charges. Good work by the deputies and we appreciate the assistance from Murphy Police Department as well. It is fortunate this took place when the traffic was nonexistent at the time which allowed the officers to bring this to a good conclusion.”
