Pedestrian struck on East Main Street

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Chattanooga Police say one person was struck by a vehicle near the MainX24 event on Saturday night.

Around 10:30 p.m., Chattanooga Police were called to East Main after they say a Toyota 4Runner driven by 21-year-old Martha Turner struck a pedestrian.

According to police, the Toyota was traveling west on Main Street behind a large SUV when the SUV turned right onto Rossville Boulevard.

Police say the Toyota continued on Main Street as a group of pedestrians were in the crosswalk.

Information released by the police department says the Toyota was unaware of the entire group of pedestrians crossing the road and attempted to hit the brakes.

Chattanooga Police say the Toyota struck one pedestrian who was taken to a local hospital with minor, non-life-threatening injuries.

Chattanooga Police arrested Turner on charges of for Failure to Yield right-of-way and Driving Under the Influence.
