Passenger dies after Saturday morning crash on East Brainerd
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Chattanooga Police say a man was killed in a crash on East Brainerd Road Saturday morning.
Dispatch says they responded to a serious injury crash with entrapment around 9:30 am.
Chattanooga Traffic Division officials say a Buick was traveling west on East Brainerd Road in the left lane and a Jeep was traveling east on East Brainerd Road in the left lane.
Police say the driver of the Buick made a left turn from E Brainerd Rd to Givens Rd in front of the Jeep. The investigators determined that the driver of the Buick hit the Jeep head-on while making the turn.
A fire started as a result of the crash.
An off-duty Chattanooga Police Officer was near the scene and assisted in removing and rendering aid to the occupants of the Buick.
The passenger of the Buick, 72 year old Eric Wertenberger, was taken by HCEMS to a local hospital with serious life-threatening injuries. He later succumbed to those injuries at the hospital.
The driver of the Buick had minor injuries and was also transported to a local hospital by HCEMS.

Previous Story– Chattanooga Police are investigating a two-car crash that happened around 9:30 am.
Two lanes of East Brainerd Road were blocked for several hours.
One of the vehicles caught on fire, but was quickly extinguished.
Two people were injured and transported to a hospital, one in critical condition.
