Pilot in Dayton Mountain Crash is from Jasper, Georgia
DAYTON, Tennessee (WDEF) – The Sheriff’s Department in Rhea County has identified the pilot involved in the plane crash on Dayton Mountain on Tuesday.
He is 71 year old Theodore Roosevelt Owens from Jasper, Georgia.
Owens remains in critical condition after his plane hit some trees on Walkertown Road on top of the mountain.
He was returning home from Illinois.
Witnesses say the plane was flying low and slow before it crashed.
When a deputy arrived on the scene, Roosevelt was trapped in the wreckage, complaining of an arm injury.
He told the officer that he couldn’t remember what had happened.
