Planning commission votes on grocery store, cell phone tower requests

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) – The Chattanooga Hamilton County Planning Commission moved forward a plan for a possible Publix to South Broad at the site of the former Mount Vernon Restaurant.

The developer had been seeking to rezone the property from Urban General Commercial (UGC) to Convenience Commercial (C-2).

That brought push back from some residents who spoke out against the plan.

A new plan was put together.

On Monday, the commission approved a deviation from certain requirements in the UGC zone.

Also in the meeting, the planning commission unanimously voted to deny a special permit for a cell phone tower in Hurricane Creek.
