Police Search CARTA Bus for Armed Suspect

SWAT team going onto a CARTA bus on Brainerd Road to search for an armed suspect.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Police blocked off Brainerd Road after reports of an armed shooter on a CARTA bus this afternoon.

Chattanooga Police say that they received a shots fired call at 2:40 this afternoon at the 600 block of Arlington Avenue.

Police say that a victim stated a family member demanded money from her and when she didn’t comply, shot at her.

They say witness told them the suspect possibly boarded a CARTA bus.

After talking with CARTA officials, they identified a person fitting the description of that suspect.

They stopped a bus along Brainerd Road between Eastgate Mall and Spring Creek Road and conducted a search.

News 12 witnessed SWAT teams marching onto the bus to search for the suspect.

No one however was apprehended, and the gunman was not on that bus.

Police are still searching for that suspect.

They have not provided a description.
