Polk County officials recover body in Hiwassee River

BENTON, Tennessee (WDEF) – Polk County fire and rescue have recovered a body from the Hiwassee River that they suspect is a man reported missing.

Family members report that Terry Bivens of Cookeville disappeared from the Gee Creek campsite on the river.

The search began Thursday.

This morning, they got a report that the body was spotted several miles downstream.

Using a drone operated by West Polk Fire and Rescue, they located and recovered it.

Officials are now trying to identify the body.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Department is investigating.
