Portion of E Madison Avenue to close on Tuesday, June 9 in Athens

The City of Athens Public Works Department has announced the following two-part street closure: the area to be affected is E Madison Avenue from Mayfield Ln to Forrest Ave/Slack Road.

They say this area will be closed to through traffic on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Flaggers will be located at the intersection of Forrest, Slack, and Madison to keep the intersection open to Slack Rd and Forrest Ave only.

The purpose of this closure is for utility cut improvements at the intersection ahead of of the previously posted paving closure, according to the City of Athens Public Works Department.

They advise individuals to use extreme caution, watch for detour and traffic control signage, pedestrians, and work crews.

Motorists should allocate additional time for traffic delays when traveling in this area.
